Old flame

Photos from the last performance of 9Lives

Addy the guitarist (subject of at least three of my blog posts) with lead singer Abby

Sinnerman's guitar -- one of the last places where the band members' names will be seen together (We got invited backstage for the guitar-signing ceremony! Woohoo!)

And this -- another masterpiece of a shot by Sinnerman

When he mailed this photo to me, I replied, "Beautiful. Bloggable."

His reply was, "Yes, blog on it and let's see what the angulimaal Virdi says now."

Angulimaal Virdi!!! Hahahahahahahahahahahhahahaha! That was a brilliant one!

Oops, sorry yaar Virdi, don't take offence, but this was too funny for me to not post! :)

Ok somebody stop me now. I cannot stop laughing.

...I thought my Hindi was pretty good, but i've never heard of an "angulimaal" person before?!?!

whats dat? is it sinnerman's own concocted word? i'm curious.

There's some story about this guy who used to collect fingers and make a necklace with it... read it in a hindi text book long back... that guy was called "angulimaal"! Maybe because he thought angulis were maal cheez... collector's edition...

Sayesha said...

Haha! Good one, Viv! Collector's edition it seems! Hahahahaha! :)

Angulimaal was a dacoit in a jungle, who wore a garland he made from his victims' fingers. He was transformed by Buddha into Valmiki.

No wonder Valmiki could write the Ramayana in one life time... He had so many fingers at his disposal!

Hey! Maybe they DID use typewriters back then...

All you Antakshari fans out there, what song did Anguli Maal sing when he was transformed into Valmiki?

hey is Raamji (prince Raam) a buddhist?? See Valmiki converted to Buddhiusm and wrote story about a prince and he has to be buddhist. and so all Hindus worship a buddhist prince it means all Hinuds are Buddhist.
A=B=C so A=C. Correct. Kar diya saab log ko kanfooz. I was doing some work on SAS and so wanted to chill out so cooked up Hindu and Budhist story. Me so good. ;-)

Hahaha! Virdi, I have an idea. Why dun you go to my Dad and say, "Main aapki beti ka haath, aur sirf uska haath maangne aaya hoon!"

Ab tak mere haath ka kamaal dekha hai, tab mere Dad ke haath ka kamaal dekhoge! :D

Brince Rama (as he is fondly known in Cambodia) was neither Hindu nor Buddhu (Virdi almost called it Buddhuism, so why not?) because he was God... and back then, God did not have an organisation chart... So he didn't have to worship his boss... whoever that was. Maybe God didn't have an MBA... maybe he hadn't yet built Harvard. We can't ask such difficult questions...

So, to make things less confusing it was decided that followers could call themselves Hindu or Buddhu, whichever pleased them.

So... What are you? (imagine this line being spoken in that smooth male voice you hear in Hugo Boss commercials)

Seriously speaking, Virdi has asked a very profound question...Bravo!

I was amazed to find that there were more people with the same question.

Check out the comments on this one... very detailed!

Sayesha, that was such a bollywood dialogue:

"Ab tak mere haath ka kamaal dekha hai, tab mere Dad ke haath ka kamaal dekhoge!"

had me literally laughing out loud.

in 1200 BC, a pretty face launched a thousand ships.

thousands of years later, a picture of a pretty hand is raising profound theological, existential and matrimonial questions.

here's to the hand!

or should i say here's to the picture of the hand! ;-)

Controversy solved !

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angulimala

Simple wikipedia search...
Valmiki was transformed by narada and not buddha !
What a discussion !
A surd managed to confuse hindus in singapore abt the hindus being actually buddhists !is that national integration or wot ??
;-)

Sayesha said...

The more I research on this, the more confused I get! Here's something that hints that Angulimal and Valmiki were different persons!

http://www.ashram.org/satsang_eng/eternal_youth/page26.html

Other names such as Valia and Ratnakara also came into the picture.

I have reached the conclusion (for now) that Ratnakara was transformed by Narada into Valmiki, and Angulimala was transformed by Buddha (into??)

Does anyone have an authentic and reliable source of info on this?

virdi said...

yes someone has.. ask buddha.. hehehe... angulimal says " main kya karoon sayesha mere ko budha mil gaya"

Hilarious conversation here...but the last post by Sayesha is absolutely correct.
Valmiki was Dasyu(Dacoit) Ratnakar. He was converted when he saw a bird shedding tears for its beloved that was killed. Thus the coverted Valmiki started writing the ramayana.
Angulimaal, was a dacoit who used to cut off the fingers of his victims and wear it in a maala(garland) around his neck. He was humbled by Buddha and later became his disciple. By what name he was known is not known. (Another anonymous!)
