I'll be there for you

Preface

After days and days of endless blogless waiting, Tech Support finally sang the 'Phir wohi Dell laya hoon' song. (Many many other such songs have since surfaced in my head, but let's not get into that again.) But may I just say that there is no joy like the joy of getting your home PC back, of sinking back in your chair in the comfort of your own room, and finally being able to catch up with blogging and blog-reading at peace. Bliss.

Actual post begins now.

===================================================

Dear Prof. C,

Last Tuesday, my heart went out to you. You've just been so unfortunate when it comes to your Media Law lessons. First Hari Raya fell on a Tuesday, and your class was cancelled. Then Chinese New Year included a Tuesday, and your class was cancelled. Just when you thought that you would be able to catch up by going at a faster pace, you had the army of Sayesha, A, W and K, the four class clowns who took up valuable class time by cracking really silly jokes. (But to my credit, you did laugh at my joke last week. Remember? You gave us an example of a restaurant review published in a newspaper that went "The food at Swensens is like a prison canteen's." and asked us if Swensens could sue the newspaper for defamation. And I asked "Can the prison canteen sue the newspaper for defamation?" And you laughed. And everyone else laughed too. And some people actually woke up. Remember?)

Getting back to the point of this post, which is your utter misfortune when it comes to finishing the material in your syllabus, the coming Tuesday is Valentine's Day. And my heart really went out to you when I saw your pleading powerpoint slide which you flashed before lesson last Tuesday. It had a picture of a heart made of pink roses and the words, "See you here on Valentine's Day! I'll bring chocolates!" And then you flashed it again during the break. And then you flashed it again after the end of the lesson.

It was really endearing. Really.

I can understand your fears. I know many people will not turn up for class that night. They will be out buying roses for five dollars each, and standing in queues for hours to have 'Valentine's Day special' meals that cost $39.00+++ per pax. (what's with the three plus signs anyway? Isn't one enough to indicate the fact that they're fooling you with the numbers before the plus signs? Why don't they add a few more plus signs till they start dropping off the edge of the menu card?) The number of tacky Valentine's Day special offers makes me sick. Heart-shaped pink pizzas??!! Ugh!

But irrespective of whether people turn up or not, I will be there for you. Not just because I'm dateless on Valentine's Day. (I'm dateless by choice. Because I do not believe in Valentine's Day. I would hate to be lost amongst the thousands of couples that walk around town, with the guy wearing the 'I'm so cool' smug expression on his face, and the girl holding the proverbial bouquet.)

I'm not really into the whole Valentine's Day thing. So I'll be there to attend the lesson. And not just because Ian is holding a gun to my head. (It's not really a gun, it's just a corn cob, but he just thinks he's got me fooled, so I'll humour him by pretending to be scared.)

I'll be there. I will travel across the country after a hard day of work to be there for my favourite subject this semester.

I promise to be there.

But you must promise that you will carry on with the lesson even if I'm the only student in class.

I also find all the valentine's day hype quite weird (guess i am not used to it). people seem to go overboard and buy stuff like glow-in-dark flowers around here (i keep getting mails advertising for this stuff.. $50!!! thats quite a lot of money for just one stalk of a fake rose!). Thats just the tip of the icebreg. Valentine's day is over rated. Today when I went for my lab class, i found the entrance of the science faculty filled with paper hearts and all kinds of pink decorations. *sigh*.. to think back at home, feb 14th used to pass almost unnoticed.

// "The food at Swensens is like a prison canteen's." and asked us if Swensens could sue the newspaper for defamation. And I asked "Can the prison canteen sue the newspaper for defamation?"

haha. that was a good one! a comment like that wud have definitely woken the class up! Wish comments like this cropped up in a few of my lectures! Then i might be able to stay awake :P

Hope u have fun at class this tuesday! :)

#Anonymous,
Thanks for commenting. I see you've made good use of your anonymity. :)

But I think you're mistaken about the theme of the party. Pyjama party's not tonight, sweetheart. So if you're yawning, just head home and go to bed.

Thank you for visiting Sayeshaz. We're sorry to have disappointed you but thanks anyway. You know your way out, don't you? :)

#Macho Girl,
Welcome back! Aha! I see someone has a new pic! :)

Yeah, the whole V-day thing sucks. I mean, I'm a die-hard romantic and all that, but even to me, the idea does not appeal at all.

This is to all guys out there -- for heaven's sake, NEVER even THINK of proposing to your girl on Valentine's Day. It's the tackiest thing ever! :/

#Spammy,
Welcome back! Arre yaar, kahan gaayab ho jaate ho beech beech mein? :)

#Eclectic,
// i am also dateless on V-day.. not by choice..

Come join me in my Media Law class! We'll party with chocs -- you, Prof C and me! :)

#Thanu,
// In a way every holiday/festival is over rated.

Hmmm... true... but at least some are universal! Unlike Valentine's Day which is so anti-singlehood! :/

//Towards the end while I was reading promise me, I thought u were going to say, bring me some kit kat ;)

Hey, that's a brilliant idea! I should have that as the condition for attendance. There's nothing quite like someone giving you Kit-Kat, isn't it? It's just not the same when you buy it yourself! :/

#Suds,
Hey hey! I missed you guys too! But now I'm back! Dell ki jai ho! :)

Hey,

That was hilarious..

//Can the prison's canteen sue the newspaper for defamation?

Ha!Ha!Ha! You're too good...I wonder how some people can come up with such witty comments spontaneously...I've few friends who do it...Its just great...Am a great fan of that spontaneity...Never can manage it myself though...

I'm sure your Prof. would be all smiles on Valentine's Day with only Sayesha in class...Good for you, you'll have a whole box of chocolates for yourself, uh!!! Have fun...

// $39.00+++ per pax

Yeah man... never understood the reason for the plusses... But I think each one means something... like service charge, cess and gst or something like that.

Of course there'll be a lecture even if you're the only person in class! I remember being the only one once in std 12... and a few of my class mates actually walked past the class when they saw the lecturer :P

Hehe! Thanks! :P

//you'll have a whole box of chocolates for yourself, uh!!!

Hopefully the choc won't have almonds. Safest would be Kit Kats. My Design lecturer used to reward me with Kit Kats last semester! :P ~ ~

#Viv,
Hmmm... gotta find out the secret of the pluses!

//psfsij - Prefay Ska Font Size Increase Janee!

Eeeeshhh! You surely deserve a beating from me for this one! :D

#Kais,
//ummm...*maybe* if you ask me nicely...

Haha! Nice try. You wish, buddy! :)

#Tinku,
Yeah I actually saw a pink pizza in a newspaper ad! Pizza Hut also has a rather silly-looking Valentine's Day loveberry pizza! Sheesh! :/

//Tu bhi Pinky ban ke jayiyo class lagane, pink hat, pink top, pink jean and pink stilettos.

Hahahaha! I'm sure my friend Ro would love to see that! :D
He thinks I'm very pink. I'm not! :/

//Aur munnu ke samne mat jayiyo Pinky banke .. tere ko green bangles pehna dedega. =))

Hahahaha! Bechare ne ek statement kya mara, fashion police uske peechhe hi pad gayi! :D

And..happy valentine's day,dear ! 4 AM fiend will send you a special "I love you" msg that nite !Worse,lemme call you !!!

#Pradyot,
Arre what happened to your blogger ID??

//Help your friends with date and bunk the classes.

You mean I should help my friends get dates?? Or help them on their dates?? The latter doesn't sound like a very conducive arrangement for a 'date'! Imagine me tagging along and 'moderating' my friends' date! Hahahaha! :D

Ritzkini,
//I second Anon...*YAWN*

I won't say anything to you because of two reasons:
1. You're man enough to come out in the open with your actual blog ID and yawn at my post.
2. Every other post of mine makes you yawn anyway. :)

//4 AM fiend will send you a special "I love you" msg that nite !Worse, lemme call you !!!

Oh you try that, sweetheart! I'm surprised you're even suggesting that, knowing our history. I have a reputation for sending lovey-dovey things to people's office addresses, remember? ;)

I may just decide to send a special delivery heart-shaped Valentine's Day lurrrve-berry pizza garnished with pink sawdust for you to your Oman office. And it will have little pink M&Ms forming the words "For my darling Kinnu".

Bol, chalega? ;)

PINK !!???? PINK M&M's !!
*Still cant close my eyes after the shock of imagining that delivery package !*

Sayesha said...

#Amit,
Hahahaha! I think I'll prefer to kamao punya thru other ways than lending money to people so they can eat pink pizzas! :P

#Ritzkini,
Hahahaha! Ab aayi na akal thikaane? Chala tha Sayesha se panga lene! :D
ps: Now you can never look at pizza or the colour pink or M&Ms the same way ever again, hai na? I've scarred you for life, baby! :)

#Pradyot,
Arre jisko jana hai jaaye baba! Humne kahan roka!

//If you have nothing to do

What are you talking about? Media Law is my favourite subject this sem! I have things to do man. I'm attending class like an achhi bachi! :)

Oh Valentine's Day?Its quite weird here in Japan celebrating the day(feb.14) coz its for boys..i mean girls must give chocolates to boys and the girls day would be on march 14(white day).So me and my daughter bought the best choco(w/ rum)yesterday for my hubby that he will be surprise to see on his bedside table valentine morning ^_^.hehe and just wait for our turn next month.Of course its not chocolate^_^..quite expensive than that but hmmm..planned by me but i know rina will win again this time^_~ daughter acts perfect than mom.
Btw..Hope you have a great Valentine..any date?^_~ you must enjoy it with someone my kawaii..

Take care..have a nice day!

love,
