Exam fright-mare

Last night, I had a freaky exam nightmare.

I dreamt that I was going for my Media Law exam. As soon as I reached the exam hall I realised that I had forgotten to bring my Law book along. It was an open book 'no smoking' exam. By 'no smoking exam', I mean that you can't smoke your way out by bullshitting in the exam, cos you need to cite actual cases and reproduce actual laws in your answers. So having the book with me was crucial. I had about 50 minutes before the exam began (why the heck was I there so early?!) but I was not able to get a cab to get home, grab the book and rush back in time for the exam. I stood on the highway which incidentally was right next to the exam hall (which weird exam hall was this?!) trying to hail a cab. As the minutes ticked by, I was freaking out so bad I was gonna have a nervous breakdown. Finally, the dreamweaver software-maker took pity on me.

Never before in my entire life had I been so happy about being woken up at 6 am by my alarm.

This led me to remember other exam-related nightmares I have suffered from. Here they are, with all the oddities that all dreams inevitably contain, which seem perfectly normal during the actual dreaming process but get translated into a 'What the..?!' once you wake up.

1. The typical everyone-has-this-once-in-their-life nightmare - Volume I
When I see the question paper, I realise that I'd studied for the wrong subject.

2. The typical everyone-has-this-once-in-their-life nightmare - Volume II
I reach the exam hall and the door is locked. Apparently the exam was yesterday.

3. The typical everyone-has-this-once-in-their-life nightmare - Volume III
I dunno how to answer a single question.

4. The inkpot nightmare
I am using an inkpot and a quill (What was I - Shakespeare?!) to write the exam, and I knock the inkpot over my answer booklet.

5. The amazing floating eraser nightmare
I am writing my exam using a pencil, and miraculously, a floating eraser (Sheesh! How creative!) is rubbing out each word I write. I finish the whole paper and when I look at it, it's all blank. The examiner snatches the paper from my hands. I wake up in cold sweat.

6. Through a jungle on a motor cycle nightmare
My exam is in another city. I miss the school bus and my Dad takes me on a motor cycle (Why on earth was he on a motor cycle?!) through a wild forest (Looks I went to jungle school and studied Jungle Book, eh?!) fighting hanging vines and wild spider webs. We chase the bus but we can't catch up. Suddenly the bus disappears. I look at my watch and realise that the exam is over. I wake up in cold sweat.

7. Lost in a hotel nightmare
I am halfway through this exam when the invigilator says it's time for the one-hour lunch break (?!). We all coolly get up as if it's perfectly normal to have a lunch break in the middle of an exam. The invigilator tells us that lunch is served for us in this five star hotel. We have all been allocated a room in case we want to take a nap (?!) before we return to finish the exam. I eat a yummy lunch, and then head for my room. I take a nap. When I wake up, it's kinda dark outside. I realise that I have overslept. I call up the phone in the exam hall (Sophisticated exam hall, huh?!) and the invigilator picks up. I tell him I'm gonna be late and he says it's okay as long as I reach before 5 pm (?!). I then proceed to get lost in the winding corridors of the huge hotel. I use the hotel's cordless (which I'm carrying with me for some weird reason!) and call up the exam hall again. No one picks up. Suddenly the huge hotel clock chimes - dong dong dong dong dong. Five times. I wake up in cold sweat.

What's your weirdest fright-mare?

I used to get this kinda dreams mostly in Holidays :)

The weirdest exam fright-mare goes here

" i am given the exam paper(usually maths). I keep on solving a sigle prblm till the end of the exam. I worry thru out the dream that i wud fail coz at the max i wud get only 8 marks.

The story never stops there. the results will be out in the same dream(dun laugh) , n i end up getting 95 marks in that subject"

Sheeesh i just cant stand it

I don't know about fright-mares but, just three weeks back, it happened with me. I went to write the exam, and realised that the exam was of the other subject. Most of us thought so. Royally screwed.

Don't ask how the grades were.

Hahahaha, what a post! Do people really get SUCH nightmares before exams? :O *gasps* Mujhe toh mere sapne yaad hee nahin rehte...hehehe. I just remember one before my Class 10 boards. I dreamt before my Computer science (I SUCKED at C++) exam that I'm not able to construct a program and just staring at the sheet. Then, I just wrote the basic opening structure of #include thingie and was begging for marks.....hahaha. Weird.
That Lost In a Hotel Room nightmare was hilarious! Hehehe.....I wanna have yum food during the exam. :P

Eeeeeeks.....

Hahaa..:-) wow. Interesting frightmares....kinda amusing when we talk about it..hehe.(The eraser one is fascinating, hahaa) Mujhe toh aaj tak aisa koi exam type nightmare nahi aaya yaar. Hmmm...am I normal? :-)). I have too many frightening dreams though. Gosh. There was this one where we were being chased with actual gunshots and we were just hiding, running and dodging these people. OMG. It was terrifying!! It's funny when I think about it, but I was absolutely dying there of fear.

I also get the late for exam and don't know a single answer nightmares. Oh! and of course... the famous, read-for-maths-sitting-in-bio nightmare. I also get this weird nightmare where i hear my alarm ringing in my dream (this is the dream alarm.. not the real one!)and I am awake, but i am not able to open my eyes and i am glued to the bed! Scary! The real alarm is most welcome to wake me up in such situations :P And believe me, it feels great to be able to open your eyes and spring outta bed after such a nightmare! ;)

Am I dreaming this?? Exams everywhere?? :P

Sigh! I am not the only one to have weird dreams during exams..

Actually..I don't dream about exams.. I dream about other miscellaneous stuff - like running(I don't know why - it has been 2 years since I ran last! :P)

Actually, when I'm nervous, I feel that there is this earthquake thing - you see.. I'm from Ahmedabad and there was a very major earthquake on 26th jan, 2001.. and I was in 10th boards at that time.. and had my exams in few days.. so I think it's partially related to that - I was very young and my mind was quite tender then! :P

Now I don't have a mind! :P

Nice post - just stop talking about exams - They're just torture.. (exams, not your post! :D)

Fright mares??!!! Don't talk about them! I've had bad.. worse.. mayb worst ones! Not on exams though.. I've never ever been bothered about my exams to get them in my dreams.. rather nightmares :p But I've had real bad nightmares apart haan!!

Anyways.. it was a nice one.. but am still wondering what made you dream about your 'Media Law exam'?

And hey.. I noticed something from your list of dreams! Your dreams seem to be really.. really inspired by 'Harry Porter' movies :P:P hehehe

Take care dear,
Aarti

I can barely sleep before exams, let alone dream.
But a common recurring "Frightmare" when I'm stressed is feeling like I'm falling down down down thud! (no, i don't really fall off the bed) but I swear I wake up feeling like I hit something..it's very realistic...

missed several of your posts, can't catch up with them all, but happy to note that TGWSTW had sufficient competition. muahahhahaa

#Aarti,
Harry Potter? Really? Weird, considering that I am not even a big fan of the series. :?

When I see the question paper, I realise that I'd studied for the wrong subject. This happened to my daugther a few months ago. She had studied for english and the paper was for science. She got 35 out of 40 in science as she is brilliant in that subject and is in std. IV :).

The inkpot nightmare reminded me of Saira Bano's Bindu in Padosan giving her exam. She similarly spills the exam all over her exam papers in the dying minutes (oh, for pun's sake) of the exam.

And believe it or not, soon after I ended my recent Harry Potter reading spree, I woke up at 4.30 in the morning from a nightmare where I was...(hold your breath) Harry Potter fighting a losing battle against the Death Eaters..I swear I woke up looking around for Dumbledore.

so how did u write ur papers..

BTW, I dont have the 'didnt study' dream, because I really dont study. :P I'd a friend who I'd call up and ask if he's studying. And he will never be. So we both revel in the fact that we've company if we flunk.
