'High' point

Pani puri ka pani on the rocks on the house for everyone!

The bar menu has reached a grand total of 500 drinks.

The blog and I have come a long way. My way of thinking has undergone drastic changes. I have learnt important lessons in self-discovery. I have found friends I never thought I could be so close to. I have made enemies I never thought I could make.

The blog has allowed me to don many personas. From Bollywood-crazy Sayesha Smitten showbiz kitten, to the baby-talking adoring masi, to the bar-tending Bhai whose name strikes terror in the hearts of many. And at other times, I am simply Sayesha, a girl who has experienced significant events in her life because of her blog.

A year ago, when a 3-day-old baby Aish was admitted to the ICU and the doctor said, “It’s upto God now.” it felt like our world was collapsing around us. I did not know what I could do. In that state of helplessness, I knew my wishes were not enough. I appealed to my blog buddies to send her their good wishes too. And they did. The wishes worked. I will never ever forget the countless blog comments, the emails, the sms messages that you guys sent to give strength to me and my family, and helped baby Aish get through it. In fact, on some levels, I feel like I owe it to you guys to tell you how my little niece is doing, which is part of the reason why there are so many posts on her.

Though I have made so many friends through my blog, I have had major major fights too. Sometimes to the point that friendships broke before the friends even saw each other in real life. I was upset at first, but took it in my stride. Friends fight, friends have fallouts. Otherwise there is something wrong. At first, I used to keep an emotional distance from my online friends, show them just my nicer side, but now I don’t. It's easy to maintain an on-the-surface friendship - after all, what are the odds that you're gonna meet every one of your blog friends? It just seems safer to be all nice and polite and keep it to jokes and not show the weak, wrecked side that all of us have. We have our 'real friends' for that, don't we? Wrong. I have come to realise it over time. If you’re my friend, I will fight with you, I will throw a fit, I will storm off, I will show you my ‘bad side’, I will yell at you, I will take a break from email threads because I know I'd been wrong, and I want to cool off without holding any grudge. I’d do everything that I'd do with a regular friend in 'real life'. If we're gonna be friends, I wanna be there beyond the silly jokes, the leg-pulling, the shallow bonding. I wanna be there when the laughter stops. And if you can’t, I don’t think there’s a point in calling this a ‘friendship’.

Blog friends aside, there is another group close to my heart. ‘The others'. They don't have a blogger account so they can’t comment but I know they are reading. They have been reading for a while actually. This blog used to be open to all to comment, but when you start getting zillions of spam comments promising you enlargement of body parts you don't even have in the first place, you have to take some measures. I'm opening up the comments space to 'The others' once again, just for this post, so if you've been one of those readers lurking around for a while, do get over your shyness and drop by with a Hi for the Bhai. :)

The most amazing thing about the bar is that it has made me a happier person. I am generally not a dukhi aatma kind of person, but sometimes life does get to you. But hanging out here in this bar with all the bewdas, and then hopping over to their blogs, just does something to me, brings a smile to my face, adds a spark to my life.

Of course, it’s not always happy-happy stuff at the bar. Sometimes I wish certain people didn’t know about my blog. Sometimes I wonder if I should take up my friends’ advice to change the URL. And then I think – nope. I chose to make it online, I chose to make it public. Now I can't pick who reads it. This is me, this is my bar. Ab jo hai, so hai.

I only realised last week that I was close to my 500th post. I know many of them have been crappy and I actually wince when I read some of then, but in a way I am proud of all of them. Because they are all mine. But if I had to pick my favourite, I guess it has to be this, because it contains the essence of what this bar is all about.

It’s just a place to get high.

On life.

Sayesha! You mean I got a Gold in your 500th post?!!

:') Oh GOD! You know something, I really wanted to be the first to comment on your posts for a long long time, but later gave up thinking that some people bribe you for informing them before you publish, so that they can greedily gobble the gold.

But see...A GOLD on 500th post!
Its all destiny...**Sniff**.. :')

Hi Sayesha, I visit your blog quite regularly and I want to complement you for the way you express yourself. I wish I could do that too!

Keep the daaru flowing, girl.

Congrats Bhai! (now that's the first time i ever said that to a girl!). Am one of the 'others' as well. If you (n)ever see the much-harried-but-still-not-married 'career' type drag his feet into the bar at the end of each maddening day, crawl to his favourite corner, have just one drink all by himself, and slink out quietly without a word, that would be me. I found the bar when a friend using my comp walked in and left the door open (he's an'other' one) - and I have generally been dropping by for my poison now and then. It's been a great trip so far - keep 'em coming!

cheers! (hic)

Believe it or not I had been visiting and reading your blog every single day since about an year but this is the first time Im commenting. I love your blog a lot, cant really express myself very well, but Im feelin emotional today along with u, just want to let you know that I really think ur a very nice person and u write very well. I would love to be your friend for life. For identity purposes u call me anon buddy (Im a female) , from now on I have decided that I will stop being shy and will comment on your posts so that u can get to know me better and may be if im lucky enough u will, in future will really become friends with me.

Hi Sayesha! Yeah, I too have been the 'silent reader' but wanting to comment for many of your posts. I'm happy I chose this post to finally comment to. I've been a regular at your bar since many months. The post which really caught my attention was the one in which you apologized to your washing machine!! I love your sense of humour. I have connections in Singapore cos my two sons came here on scholarship just like you did. This probably shows you that I'm from another generation unlike your usual 'bewdas'! Though I live in a different part of the world, I'm now in Singapore spending time with my children. Whenever I go out I always wonder if I'll bump into you! If I had, I would've definitely introduced myself to you as one of your ardent fans!Keep writing beautifully as you are doing now.You have a lot of silent well-wishers like me and I wish you and your family all the very best!

Congrats!! 500 posts is a yooge achievement.

Incidentally, your favorite post, "Welcome to Sayeshaz!" was the first post of yours that I read and commented on!! :)

And I've read almost all your posts since then and its common knowledge that this is one of my favorite blogs.

I haven't commented here in months but that's only because I felt that my comments got lost in the sea of comments that each post gets here and sometimes, I never really had to say anything that hadn't already been said by someone else. But I've still been reading all your posts and did not want to miss commenting on this milestone of a post. :D

I am a little sad to see that my blog is now off your blogroll but that's okay. My blog's on a break anyway! :)

Hey Sash,

The old vine has turned 500! congrats girl... lemme take this opp to tell u how i, a non-drinker, came into this bar and got addicted ;)

I chanced upon ur blog when i was reading Basanthi's blog... this must b some 2 months back... and since tat day, i've read and re-read all your blogs, from the very first one... and everytime i feel low or i need a break from my tech-writing here in office, i jus open your blog and randomly click one of ur archives and read thro till i smile and sometimes laugh...

I'm a writer too, but i must say, i learnt a lot from ur writings, and from ur experiences :) And am now kinda addicted to Sash's bar...

So bhai, aapke rapchik blog ko apun ka rapchik salaam... keep serving us more doses of this nasha-e-blog...

Hi Sash,
Let me tell u how much I like ur blogs... In March I was down with an accident and I was at home... I dont have an Internet connection at home but some times my fren used to bring his laptop... And bang, the first thing I do is check the latest drink from the bar... ;-) Keep the good work goin gal...

Hi Sayesha,

I have been hooked onto your blog from past year or so. I have left 2 comments so far. You write so brilliantly and each and every post has that warm touch. If your post talks about optimisim, positive spirit then my day in the office also reflects the same. If you are hurt or tensed then even I feel the same. That is the effect you have on me. I loved your recent baby Aish post so much that I was overwhelmed by emotion.

Keep up the good work. I'm sure very soon I'll be writing a comment on your 1000th post too.

Aaj subeh, I was reading through your latest posts since I was OOS (Out of station :D) for a week and my sister comes and peeks in with what-you-reading-with-a-concentration-level-never-seen-before look and I start telling her about you as if you were my recent-friend-whos-become-bestest friend-whom-i-know-personally. My sister seemed interested and commented immeaidately "She must be in the field of writing/editing/pulishing. Warna kiske paas hoga itna patience" ... :D and I totally admire your non-laziness regarding writing posts and writing them well. Keep it up !!

Congratulations on finishing five centuries!

Hi Sayesha,

another one of "the others" surfacing here. Love your blog for various reasons, but top most remains that its the most unpretentious, genuine blog i have come across on the netsphere. Keep up the good work of keeping us entertained, informed and also somewhat inspired :)

take care and love to baby Aish!

Hi Sayesha,
I have been reading your blogs for close to two years now. I would like to thank you for the nice time I've had while reading them. Visited your blogs after quite sometime now. Usually after my lunch in office I browse through different sites before commencing with work again. Your blogs have been my favorite past-times. I finished my college 2 years back and am currently working. But i guess sticking to a Job is not my cupp-a-tea. Planning to go for higher education. This is not a "Frand shib request" ;-). I just wanted to let you know that your way of writing about the lighter side of things is amazing. To hell with all the problems that one may be having, but you and your blogs rock big time. 3 cheers !!!

Sayesha said...

Hey hii! :) Thanks for all the compliments! I am so flattered! :P Let's be "frands"? :D

Navin said...

Hi Sayesha,
Nice to hear from you. "I friend you" ;-). So, other then writing comments for you blogs and then discussing about them...... Is there a way of being in touch with you.. ??

I read a few blogs.. yours is one of them.. started pretty recently due to a weird weird reason.. will let you know sometime if I continue frequenting and you get to notice!!

Your blog is special.. really so aur apun ka koi mood nahi hai senti menti honey ka ya dene ka.. but this bar rockzzz and truly reminded me of madhushaala..
