Ab tera kya hoga, Ramu?

Beta Ramu, tujhe yaad hai? Sholay mein kitne aadmi they?

Kisko laayega? Kahan se laayega?

Abhi bhi waqt hai. Abhi bhi kuchh nahin bigda.

Bin the production.

Really.

Try as you might, Ramu....there was, and will be, only ONE Sholay...and that will be THE Sholay !!

:))

Looks like one more remake attempt which starts as a remake and will end up being much less than anticipated, throwing out the usual "We tried to have our own twist to the tale" ;)

Seeing the way DON went, nothing can be said till the movie hits the screens. But i have serious doubts on that Mohit wala ladka. Him as Jai, please!!! He runs like a female :o

Strider said...

BRONZE!

Are what's with all the remixes.. I mean remakes?!

Don was a big let down.
Let's see how Sholay fares.
Btw I don't know whether its true or not, but Ramu's supposedly casting Sushmita for Jaya Bachhan's role!!

Are Ian ka kya hua Bhai?? Exams kareeb nahi hai?

Why why why??? Why remake a movie like Sholay???? :(
We have enough parodies of Sholay as it is... :P
Mohit Ahlawat as Jai? (sigh) :((
And check this out! - http://www.rediff.com/movies/2006/nov/01basanti.htm

kya re sayesha,
old news!
in the meanwhile, abhishek has been replaced for jai, by ajay devgun. basanti and chhoti bahu are also finalized.
last i heard, abhishek would be doing the jalaal agha bit - mehbooba mehbooba, with urmila doing helen's role!

oxymoron said...

sorry, ajay devgun doing veeru, not jai!

#Shekhar,
YEAH!!! :D

#Iday,
I agree. Though I agree that Farhu did a good job with the twists and turns in Don, I did not understand why he had to make a remake in the first place. I mean surely he could have written an original story with all those twists and turns?
ps: I have never seen any movie with the Mohit wala ladka, and yet I'm outraged that anyone would even dare to play Jai! :/

#Strider,
//Are what's with all the remixes.. I mean remakes?!

Exactly my question! :/

//Btw I don't know whether its true or not, but Ramu's supposedly casting Sushmita for Jaya Bachhan's role!!

Yeah, I read, she's gonna be some black-clad cop or something... full of revenge and all, unlike the docile Jaya Bachchan.

//Are Ian ka kya hua Bhai?? Exams kareeb nahi hai?

Wednesday. :)

#Dev,
I swear man, I almost flipped out when I saw the new 'Basanti'. I applaud Hema for saying "Sholay is a movie that must be watched many times, not made many times!" :)

#Oxymoron,
I know old news hai re... I was hoping he'd drop the idea, but that he's making concrete plans, I thought I'd give him a last warning! ;)

//mehbooba mehbooba, with urmila doing helen's role!

Argh! After what Kareena did to Helen's song in Don, I dread what Urmila will do... :|

oxymoron said...

hmmm! i guess atleast urmila will do a better job than KK.
btw, what happened to u? ur posts have become less frequent, once in 3-4 days, as compared to once a day. sab theek thaak?

Apun saw the picture of AB as gabbar.. and pata hai kya? I think he looks like Sai Baba on crack...

Erm.. I am sorry if I've hurt anyone's sentiments, but yaar.. that's what I thought! :/

heyy!! look look, small post on sayeshaz :D
and now that basanti says, yeeaahh he looks exactly like she said,, and being the "basanti" at sayeshaz, she is the authority to talk about sholay here :P
so who is gabbar singh at sayeshaz :D

Best of luck! :-)

AB babaesque?! :O :(

//I have never seen any movie with the Mohit wala ladka
James naam ka movie ke baare me suna???
The movie bombed at the box office. I saw it on DVD.
Mohit's performance (or the total lack of it) in the movie made Nisha Kothari's performance appear brilliant in comparison :)
Ramu is so struck with the guy's talent that he is remaking James again.

But him as Jai - gimme a break.
Ramu's casting makes Farhan's casting appear super good :)

Dunno abt how gud or bad the idea of a sholay remake is...even Ramu agrees that nuthin can beat the original...but it sure will be fun watching the new revamped and re-styled sholay...
esp looking fwd to AB baby and Big B together again in a song...
One actually can say nuthin nowadays...Don turned out to be pretty stylish n with the twists, it was fun actually...but Ramu has been dissapointing in his last few films so really finger cross karke baithe hain :-)
For now...just waiting for Dhoom2 and Casino Royale(though no one can match Pierce Brosnan) :-)

# Bin the production.
- i second the prosposition.

raamu bhaiyya better think original. mohit ,nisha kothari...... both make me go grrrrrrrrr..

heard another piece of gossip - raamu bhaiyya approached manoj bajpai for SAMBA

such a superior actor like bajpai (especially in satya and PINJAR) and being asked to essay SAMBA!

pathetic!

Once upon a time, there was a great director who made Dil chahta hai and Lakshya.
Then he made a remake.
Then, there is another director who made Rangeela, Company and Satya. Then...

But, come on guys, we have to give it to Ramu. He is a director of some caliber, he has proved it before. It should be interesting...

And for Mohit Ahlawat, If I can shake my hips like Shakira can, he too can act for Jai.

Meanwhile, enjoy this perody.

Can we make a sholay the original fan letter to ask them to bin this production..
What is becoming of bollywood? I know, you can spin the love/family saga/ vilence/suspense/murder mystery that passes for hindi cinema only in some many ways... now that they have run out of idea, they go and remake the classics... Devdas, Don, Umrao jaan and now SHOLAY????????????
Had kar di..
Apna koi jor chaloa bhai.. Band karo yeh na insafi.. Bahut na insafi hai yeh..

Anonymous said...

Mujhe toh lagta hai ke comparison ke matlab nahi hai. It takes away the uniqueness of every actor. I have been seeing none of the remakes with comparisons in mind..whether it be Umrao...or Don. That helps I think. Then we can be more open to watching it with a fresh mind.

Sneha said...

nahinnnn!!! this possibly can't be happening!! what is WRONG with these producer director people?? can't they just find NEW movies to make??? why ruin the old, already ultrahit movies and try to draw a comparison!?! kalyug aa hi gaya hai! sigh!

#Oxymoron,
Exams have taken their toll on me I think. I just got my dissertation approved, so that's one thing sorted out... I'm just very very tired yaar :(

#Basanti,
:D
ps: :| (in case someone takes offence)

#Fafridi,
//heyy!! look look, small post on sayeshaz :D

Sheesh! :/

//so who is gabbar singh at sayeshaz :D

Tujhe banna hai kya? :D

#Strider,
Thanks yaar! :)

#Iday,
I've heard of James but did not watch it.

//Ramu's casting makes Farhan's casting appear super good :)

Totally agree! :|

#Bivas,
//but it sure will be fun watching the new revamped and re-styled sholay...

That's what these pple are doing man... capitalising on the curiosity value and making huge profits :( Everyone would wanna go to see how bad it is, and it'll be a sell-out! :(

//though no one can match Pierce Brosnan

Of course! :D

#Asha,
Manoj Bajpai as Samba??? He must have banged the door on Ramu's face! :D

#Aashun,
Ramu's lost it yaar... did you watch Naach. Thank Ritesh I could sit thru the movie! :|

#ROS,
Hahahaha! Yeah! :D
ps: Welcome back, baby! :)

#Sakshi,
Exactly! I did not think much of Devdas II and Don II. Heard Umrao Jaan II is a complete disaster. But Sholay will take the cake man! Just look at the casting! :D

#Harshi,
Hmmm... I guess if you haven't seen the original, you won't mind the remake so much. But I'm outraged that they would even dare to touch the old classics. It's like the dhikchik version of 'Baahon mein chale aao', makes me wanna hurl bricks at the so called 'music directors' and all the half-naked chicks insulting Jaya Bachchan with their gyrations! :(

#Sneha,
//what is WRONG with these producer director people?? can't they just find NEW movies to make???

You said it, girl!

#Aashun,
Yeah I saw it, thanks :)

oxymoron said...

gd luck for them, if any still remaining!

ramu's perseverance commendable. i guess he still believes that he can make a star out of mohit with all his horrible movies like james...

Half naked??? Did u say half naked???
If only those girls wud hear that, they'd take offense and start shedding some more clothes :o

In a way remakes are acceptable yaar. These are folks who at least accept the fact that they are re creating stuff which already exists :) So much for "creativity" :P

But yeah, there is a line which re-makers must not cross. In casting this Mohit wala dud as Jai, he has crossed that line fair and square :(

arpana said...

hmmm ,errr , can i use some obscenity here? ok Here I go ..

I wld rather show Ramu's movie , if and when made , the FINGER rather than watch it ... balls .. Sholay is Sholay who dares remaketh it?

Anonymous said...

# Manoj Bajpai as Samba??? He must have banged the door on Ramu's face! :D

- he was mighty cheesed off. that's what the film mag said.

It's human to compare a remake with the old one. And this one has A LOT at the stake. God Bless, the whole team! It'd be tough to make people sit in the theatre without getting back to the classic.

Anonymous said...

I don't know.. I'm all for Ram Gopal Varma to make the brave move of remaking the so called "Classic Masterpeice".

I remembered reading his interview about it sometime ago and one of his answers was extremely funny and sarcastic.

Hema Malini apparently said Sholay should never be re-made but should be watched many times, to that RGV replied "This sholay doesn't revolve around Basanti".

RGV rocks! In my opinion, he's the only Indian director who has some class which clearly reflects in all his movies, even if they bombed at the BO.

And I was @#%&^*&! after I heard Nisha Kothari was taking Hema Malini's place... I mean, come on!!! X-(

What can i say.
However i must point out one cannot call Devdas,Umraoo Jaan as remakes cause they are more of re-telling a novel. And JP Dutta's Umraoo Jaan was more true to the novel's than muzaffar ali's I have been informed.

However When it comes to Complete movie remakes with Don, Sholay, Don(RGV was thinking of making and calling it King) it stinks.
Mostly because you cannot make it better. There have been notable exceptions of reinventing the original like Ocean's Eleven but somehow Sholay doesnot look like its gonna go that way

#Oxymoron,
Starting tomorrow! :O
Thanks! :D

#Inder,
I gave up on him after I watched 'Naach' :P

#Iday,
I still don't find remakes acceptable even if they sound better. You can always make a prettier Taj Mahal with all your modern technology and what not, but would you? More importantly, should you?

#Arpana,
Hahaha! Baap re itna gussa? :P

#Asha,
Can totally imagine man! :/

#Rohit,
I think I will buy one big packet of chips and watch the DVD of Sholay original on the day that the remake releases. :P

#Vikram,
Well, I'd say that RGV's reply to Hema was more of a personal attack than a witty reply because her statement had nothing to do with 'Basanti'. It was a general statement about what a masterpiece Sholay was. If RGV is so talented, he should original stuff yeah? :)
ps: Why aren't you signing in, you dhakkan? What if someone impersonates you? :/
pps: Viks, tu 'Naach' dekh le, please please please? :P

#Sowmya,
I'm outraged at the remake and more outraged at the casting! At least with Don, Farhu gave a little bit (still not enough) respect to AB by casting Bollywood king SRK.

#Chanakya,
Yeah, you do have a point there. According to copyright law, stuff in the public domain are open to adaptations. But Sholay/Don can't even be considered adaptations no matter how many rights you acquire. The fact that talented guys like Farhu and Ramu are doing this just goes on to show that they're just planning to capitalise on the curiosity value and make money. They could be doing another DCH, another Lakshya, another Company with the time :(

Anonymous said...

//If RGV is so talented, he should original stuff yeah? :)//

Yeah, he has proved that he is capable of coming up with creative ideas in the past.

Anyway, I think it's a matter of perspective, look at it this way - nobody ever thought of re-making Sholay before RGV. He was bold enough to not only conceive that idea but actually go around implementing it withstanding all the obvious criticism he is going to have to shelve.

I keep forgetting my password man, that's why I use my name. Naah, maybe they can steal my identity by using my name, but they definetly can't steal my ideas and thoughts right? :P

Iday said...

//I still don't find remakes acceptable even if they sound better. You can always make a prettier Taj Mahal with all your modern technology and what not, but would you? More importantly, should you?
You missed the point :)
I don't want remakes too. But i said they are better in a way because when ppl say "I'm gonna try remake Taj Mahal", they at least save us from having to listen to "I did not start with an aim to make Taj Mahal, but since i am such a great thinker and i think on par with ShaJahan (and/or that great sculptor who designed the Taj Mahal) that unintentionally the building i made also appears like Taj Mahal". The "I was inspired" case that pisses me off.

To say it in simpler terms, remakers are better than copy cats ;)

But if u ask me "Why should you remake at all", i have no answer but "No - oldies must never be remade".
Remakes only display a lack of original or creative thinking.
