The first one

As usual, the first post of the month (and the year this time!) is a Bollywood poll. (This should actually be a 'My resolutions for 2009' blog post, but I think I'm just going to follow the first point in my last post.)

Anyway, in line with positive thoughts to start the year, I hereby invite all you bewdas to nominate one Bollywood movie that inspired you the most, a movie that had the best message for its audience, a movie that made you want to wake up the next day and do something different. Or do the same thing differently.

Results will be out in the next post.

ps: As usual, to avoid 'influence', comments will be moderated.

pps: As usual, under 'influence', bewdas will still yell 'gold'. :P

Undoubtedly, It has to be 'A wednesday'.It didn't get into pseudo intellectual talks about how a terrorist is born, it didn't propose a solution, it didn't hit on politicians or cops. Instead, it plain and simple raised the voice of a common man and asked a few plain and simple questions - 'How a man on the street should react with all the bombs and bullets around him? What is his fault? Whom does he look at?'

Wonderful...

Surely has to be "Swades". Was so inspired by SRK's performance and his decision at the end of the movie.
Not sure whether I liked the "lighting the bulb" event, but the significance of a small act to bring about a change in an Indian town was inspiring. Notwithstanding "Pani lo pani, 25 paise ka ek glass" scene. Whoa, 25 paise is not even in circulation now.

In my case, 'Swades' is that movie :)

While 'Dostana' brought the gay culture sound "in"...'RNBDJ' celebrated the ordinary man...
While 'Ghajini' made people change their hair styles...'Race' made every 1 go evil yet classy...

But Hands down the winner change agent movie for me was "A WEDNESDAY".

is it the lack of ideas or laziness that there are too many bollywood poll posts lately? just wondering...

The movies that really inspired me are V Shantaram's "Do Aankhein Barah Haath", specifically V Shantaram's character, and Gulzar's "Mere Apne", Meena Kumari's character. Then there are "Bawarchi" and "Satyakaam" in the list. Waise in general my habit is to try to get learnings from every other movie I watch, so the list will be long :)

My vote goes to Rock on. It keeps you alive.
The following lines read my key takeaway from the movie.
Jaise jeene ko dil chaahe jee waise tu,
apni to hai bas yeh raai ki apne jitne bhi armaan hain poore kar le tu..

Taare Zameen Par. Made me decide that, when I have kids, I would recognize their own special talents and not push them to be 'achievers' in the conventional way. Also made me stop comparing myself with my colleagues, and recognize my own unique abilities.

"Trikaal" opened my eyes to a higher plane of storytelling... an experience akin to watching Pulp Fiction for the first time. I think it's given me a tiny bit more courage to break the rules of plot and theme. A little madness, a little WTF in the midle of a normal story can make the difference between good and mindblowing.

Well I would have to nominate - Rang De Basanti..
The approach may be filmy, but the intentions were not..
Infact, the trial for Jessica lal murder case would not have happened so soon had RDB not released when it did...Also, the rallies against reservations were also influenced..
Basically, it did boost the common man to atleast raise their voices in unison against anything wrong!!

Gold !!!

'Ghajini'... it made me start taking my workout at the gym seriously. err.. But don't come back to me in a year and ask me about the 8-pac.

Taare Zameen Par

here i 'm said...

Oh i easily get influenced by movies... but the last one ..which really made me think was "dasvidaniya" ... we have so many wishes and how little we take it seriously... and take it for granted that either " its silly or not possible " or " i'll do it when i m XYZ years old or when i'm done with blah blah blah" ... but the fact is yesterday is gone and tomorrow is yet to come... the reality is today... so live life to the fullest...and try to follow your dreams as much as you can.
