Copy that

Happy Bapu's budday, bewdas! Aaj dry day karne ka, kya?

So Sudipta has asked bloggers to write something on plagiarism on 2nd October.

However, since my first post of the month is always a Bollywood poll, I shall do my best to combine the two themes for this post.

The poll of this month is to name the Bollywood movie that was the most shameless rip-off of a Hollywood movie.

ps: As usual, I have enabled comment moderation to avoid influence. Once again, do not yell 'GOLD!' :P

Pyaar toh hona hi tha ...

No doubt a good movie, wonderful performances but so so completely copied from "French Kiss" ...

In some scenes even the clothes were same !!!

Happy budday to Dear Bapu!

The most shameless rip off would have to be... let me think. Aww it sucks I haven't seen it yet. I'll wait til the comments are published.

Btw, you were missed on here.

Partner and Hitch -- shot by shot.

How bout the reverse poll... which Hollywood movie seems most like its come from the Bollywood stable? :-P

Many come to my mind here (unsurprisingly).
1. Partner (scene to scene dialog to dialog copy of Hitch)
2. God Tussi Great Ho ...first 15 minutes of this movie are plain torture - salman's definition of acting is clearly not be understood by us mortals.
2. Humko Deewana Kar Gaye *ing Akshay and Katrina. - some scenes are copied from Notting Hill. Story is different though. Overall I liked this movie, due to gorgeous katrina (:D) and awesome chemistry betn her and akshay.

In my opinion, it has to be the climax scene of 'Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya' which is a SHAMELESS rip-off of the climax scene of F.R.I.E.N.D.S. (ok, agreed its not a hollywood movie).

I am talking about the "this plane has no philangee" sequence.

Aawara Paagal Deewana (Lobby scene of The Matrix...one of my favs :@)

i haven't seen the copy, but the trailors suggest it's quite a blatant one - God Tussi Great Ho!

The original was an enjoyable one!

Chachi 420.. a rip off from Mrs.Doubtfire!!.. and not only was it copied in hindi, but also, telugu, tamil and Kannada!!

Vikram Bhatt, for one, is an expert at directing successful remakes. His Fareb (Faraaz Khan, Suman Ranganathan) was a remake of Unlawful Entry. Kasoor (Aftab Shivdasani, Lisa Ray) was a remake of Jagged Edge. Ghulam (Aamir Khan, Rani Mukherji) was a remake of On The Waterfront. Raaz (Dino Morea, Bipasha Basu) was a remake of What Lies Beneath. Awara Paagal Deewana (Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Aftab Shivdasani, Paresh Rawal, Amrita Arora, Preeti Jhangiani) was a remake of The Whole Nine Yards.

Very diffilcult to choose from enormous list of such films...
from murder, criminal, kyon ki main jhoot nahi bolta...lolz

I would vote for Murder...[:P shameless rip off] (read b/w the lines lolz)

Khwaish (Mallika Sherawat one).

Rip off from Love Story- scene to scene, line to line, and the girl in the India version calls her dad by his name- like she does in the english one.

Bhai,

Now a days, we dont copya few scenes here and there from a movie, the whole bloody movie seems a Hollywood movie dubbed in Hindi.

I have lost count.

I think the next question should be, which movie has not been "influenced" by some Hollywood movie?

God Tussi Great Ho

direct copy of

Bruce Almighty

Resolutions of Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (=Romeo and Juliet) and U Me Aur Hum (=50 First Dates)!!! Sorry, can't think of a whole movie (maybe I accidentally avoided them).

I still remember the worried/i-knew-something-was-up look you gave me when i mentioned the similarity to U Me Aur Hum after the screening, heh.

By the way -- see you next month!

Partner... shameless copy of hitch...

they even created a newspaper stand..thou not a usual sight in india...just so they donn have to use their imagination...

Hari Puttar!!!

CRIMINAL was scene to scene copy of fugitive, so much so that the kind of taps shown in movie didnt even exist in India at that time.. few scenes which didnt even impact continuity of the story, like scene where zip of the hero's pants remain open and somebody points it out has also been retained.. Mahesh Bhatt was at his shameless best

Praveen said...

partner, the blatant lift from hitch

anshuj said...

Partner(Original Hitch). They didn't spare a single expression from copying...and whatever they added only made it worse. ( Chhota Don, and Lara's son)

My vote would go to Murder. It has been a while since I saw it. But I can think of atleast one scene that was a frame by frame copy.

Navin said...

"Kahin Pyaar Na Ho Jaaye" starring Salman and Rani was a shameless rip-off a cool and funny Hollywood movie "Wedding Singer"...... Its a scene to scene copy..... Shameless is a mild word for this one......

Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha from French Kiss...
Though the ripped off version was pretty good I must say :-)

Somya said...

Yeh Dillagi- Sabrina. I think barring the songs(can't even imagine a hollywood movie with a number like ole ole)rest entire story line n characters were copied ditto and that too coming from the Yashraj stable.

Ek Ajnabee --> Direct lift from Man On Fire ..

Height is : The scenes describing the deaths of Amitabh Bachchan's soldiers are taken directly from the American HBO Mini-series Band of Brothers.

I feel the movie by Arjun Rampal " I SEE YOU " is a heartbreaking, stupid , irritating copy of " JUST LIKE HEAVEN "

Partner !!
Soo many scenes were like ... taken xerox from Hitch. With a failed attempt to replace Will smith with Salman khan, and plain translation of angrezi dialogues into hindi.

For me its HITCH made in to Partner...

I am anyway going to yell gold, since i never do so this time Yeayyy GOLDDDDDD!!!

Yaarana (one with madhuri dixit and Raj Babbar) based on Sleeping with the enemy.

Ru-ba-ru, the recent dud a fully scene by scene copy of If Only.. wish the makers would have put some brain before producing something of which even shahana goswami and randeep hooda would be embarassed of....

Prags said...

Gold!!!!!!!..couldnt help it... :)

For me tht movie rather movies would be Darrar, Agnisaakshi and i guess Yaarana...

all three copied from the Hollywood flick 'Sleeping with the enemy'

Anonymous said...

The Fugitive copy.. with Manisha Koirala and Nagarjuna. Forget the movie name. Sorry.

Anonymous said...

I don't know the name... but the one that was a copy of Primal fear... complete with the Bollywood un-twist of the twist.

Btw, Baazigar was a rip-off... wonder how many people know that.

~vagabond~ said...

Mine's kinda obvious, but I just watched it yesterday and it's the only one I can think of. God tussi great ho. Such a horrible Bollywood version of an enjoyable Hollywood movie. Ugh.

Pyar ka saya - deeply 'inspired' by Ghost.

by the way did anyone notice how a small fraction of 'the dark night' was inspired by sholay! :)

and did someone find similarity between mercury rising and hatya. hatya came like ten years before mercury rising.
