Ek hockey doongi rakh ke!

Caught this ad yesterday. Instantly got interested. Sehwag starting off with "Main is baar nahin khelunga!" is a brilliant hook. Loved it. In fact, loved the ad all the way...

...until he said what he said towards the end... sheesh.

Sehwag ke bache, couldn't you have asked them to tweak the script than to blatantly declare, "Main apni team ke saaaare matches dekhne jaaunga"?

Yeah, right. :/

LOL @ the ad..!

Like what a friend said... "Sad state of affairs if it takes a cricketer to appeal for the nation to even know that a hockey world cup is being hosted in it's own country." :(

Hey thanks! I didn't know this ad. I think its an awesome ad!

What if Sehwag really goes to all the matches? Too altruistic? Maybe not! Maybe even practical!

eg. Hero Honda can pay Sehwag for the time he spends in the stadium. I don't know how much time one hockey game takes (LOL! The sad state of affairs!), but I am guessing even if it is for the whole day, and India makes it
all the way to the finals (fingers crossed!) Hero Honda would have to pay only for Sehwag's 10 days or so! Surely a company that pays Hrithik Roshans and Priyanka chopras for ads can afford this much!

The gains?
Hero Honda gets a lot of publicity, that too for a 'patriotic and noble' cause! Maybe they can give live footage of Sehwag during the match breaks etc, show him coming to and leaving from stadium in various Hero Honda two wheelers!
Sehwag will get a good image boost for being true to his words
And hey! Hockey gets publicity!

Also, maybe many more players of cricket can be recruited, at least for a day or two. Companies reluctant to directly sponsor hockey can also participate as co-sponsors! Then cricket and hockey players can mingle with sportsman's spirit! I am not saying it would be staged and fake! It could happen quite truly with right attitude.

I think I love capitalism when its used the right way!

BTW Shekhar,

Isn't it a happy state of affairs that people are pooling in ideas & resources to promote hockey which is currently in a sad state?

I guess ppl watch sports mainly for entertainment and excitement. Whats needed is probably more gimmicks supporting hockey! gradually people and money getting drawn to hockey can become a vicious circle in tandem operation!

@Stupidosaur: Oh I totally support the promotion of hockey by whatever means possible.

What my friend, and I, thought was "sad" was the people-in-our-own-country-are-ignorant-about-the-world-cup happening bit.

Yeah, and by all means, there should be more ads (hopefully not like these Sehwag/Rathore types) glorifying hockey and presenting it as the thrilling, fast-paced game that it is.

well...this is one of the series of ads being aired with other celebs including - dhoni, sachin(i think..not sure..), and priyanka chopra and some other actor as well...I think its a gud initiative...even radio stations are promoting by asking hockey related questions on quiz (at least to the station i listen to)...

I in fact liked it. People from other sports are coming together to promote this sport. Who ever thought of it, I think, thought well. Impressed.

#Sudipta, Geomon, VIDYA,
*thunk thunk thunk* :P

#Porkodi,
It's a good ad, except for that last part. :(

#Shekhar,
Kudos to Hero Honda. :)

#Stupido,
Yeah, the ad is awesome. I just don't buy the whole 'Sehwag will watch every match' thing, which I feel takes away some of the sincerity from this otherwise great ad. I don't think Sehwag will agree to come watch all the matches even if HH offers money. Yep, getting cynical. :(

#Shekhar,
Yeah, good idea. Actually they should have a good ad about the game itself rather than have people go to watch because Sehwag is going. :)

#rt,
That's good to know. :) Though I really do wonder if cricket should replace it as the national game. :)

#N,
Yep, the ad is quite nice, it's his claim that he will watch all matches that I couldn't digest. :(

OK, keep aside whether Sehwag will watch the match or not. He should do better than to sound hypocritical.

Sudeep said...

In my opinion they shld have got the Chak De girls to do the promotions. Match dekhne aana warna ek hockey dungi rakh-ke kinda stuff.
I am not sure if Rathore's voice is his own (in the other ad) but I loved the voice(over).

#Dil se,
It's a good initiative from Hero Honda, but I seriously doubt Sehwag will watch all the matches.

#Sudipta,
Feels funny to come back to this comment after we have already met! Hope you had a good time in Singapore! :D

#lIl hIgH,
The makers of course! :)

#N,
Let's hope so. :)

#jennifer,
Thanks for the link! :)

#Shaiz,
Chak de, of course! :D

#Vishnu,
Yeah I think if he really meant to watch every match, he should have made a stronger statement about it. And if he didn't intend to watch them, he should not have said that in the first place.

#Sudeep,
Oh yeah, that would have been a fun ad! :)
